london fashion week - dion lee aw12

This turned out to be without a doubt my favourite of the collections I saw at London Fashion Week. I knew nothing about Dion Lee when I went to this presentation but he's a designer I'll be paying much more attention to from now on. Graphic, clean, loads of sharp black lines and flowing sheer fabrics, plus the woven 'caps' of hair are incredz. See more images and the short report I wrote for Fashion156 here xx

Although I'm trying to channel pastel colours at the moment in an effort to silence my gothic tendencies, I've still found myself automatically drawn to Thomas Tait's darker collections; with sharper, cleaner shapes and more structured silhouettes. The flat upright collar from SS12 could be the answer to my latest fashion predicament though, which is that I'm getting dangerously bored of peter pan collars, might have to try and build my own version of this..

I've been looking through the pre-fall collections for my uni project research, and since it's only about 6 weeks til LFW now I thought I'd start getting excited etc. and share some of the designers whose work really stands out to me! These are my three favourites from pre-fall 2012 that I've seen so far, click the images to view the full collections:

Helmut Lang Pre Fall 2012

These patterns are inspired by spider-webs made by spiders on drugs. Literally amazing. The second outfit is a perfect example of layering looking really effortless while still maintaining an interesting silhouette! I like how grunge is still going strong as well! And the outfit on the right is just immaculate. It carries on the overall theme but still looks very clean and smart, so cleverly done.

I'd quite like to own every piece from these four oufits, everything is so wearable and I will never tire of a leather collar. But I can't quite adjust to the amount of houndstooth on display for 2012, it makes me slightly uncomfortable. Imagine the mess that will happen when that trend trickles down to chav-wear?!!? Ahhh vomit-inducing. Jason Wu does it very well though with the paneled skirt, and the coat in the first look is like something from a dream.

These fur sleeves are INCRED and I need them on my arms! And I like that the high neckline means I don't have to worry too much about my double chin developing over the next year or so.. In all seriousness this collection is impressive, it features a fresh take on combining leather, fur and sheer fabrics, which you'd think we'd all be getting bored of by now, but the way it's all mixed together is really interesting. Plus I can see Topshop ripping off the jacket on the right pretty well!

collaborative shoot with alexandra mochrie (model/styling) and aqsa khan (styling). i am still in the process of editing the images but here are a few of the first photos, there are more on my flickr and my portfolio website. i borrowed a 35mm lens from uni which i think has made a lot of difference to my images, i'm excited about using it for a few more shoots in the next couple of weeks!
